At PowderPlast we are experts at dry milling of plastics polymer powders. Using our many and unique on-site milling operations which are strategically positioned around South Africa, we are able to accommodate our customer’s exact milled powder needs and specifications. We are able to pulverise or dry mill most polymers (in pellet form) into a powder for particular manufacturing processes. The plastic polymer is milled to the required granular size and flow rate for the particular customer demand. A variety of techniques can be applied to ensure that the quality and character of the powdered plastic polymer best suits the customer’s production needs. Through the process of compounding, PowderPlast can extrude various plastics and add pigments and additives to provide our customer with a blend of material in either a pellet or powder form. For these customers, specific blends are manufactured to provide a unique colour scheme. PowderPlast provides its customers with a delivery infrastructure which allows for any amount of product to be delivered anywhere in South Africa, in any quantity. This service contributes to the customers’ cost effective process flow since their material is delivered in manageable quantities, which assists with cash flow planning. In collaboration with the polymer producers, PowderPlast can assist with the development and trial testing of different plastic grades to the customer’s specification. For example, specified melt flow indexes to aid in specialised manufacturing processes such as plastics foaming in rotational moulding. PowderPlast has the machinery available to trial and test specialised plastics on behalf of customers before plastic powder samples are delivered. PowderPlast is equipped to make various colours of masterbatch. A masterbatch is made to the specifications of the customer by matching the particular colour to the customer’s product. Masterbatch is a solid (or in some cases liquid) additive for plastic, used for the colouring of plastics or for imparting other required properties to plastics such fire retardants, ultra violet inhibitors, etc. It is a concentrated mixture of pigments and/or additives, encapsulated during a heat process into a carrier resin which is then cooled and cut into a granular shape. Masterbatch allows the processor to colour raw polymer economically during the plastics manufacturing process.
