Origin of Opkyk Pathways Educational and Therapy Centre.
Opkyk Pathways Vision and Mission.

She was in urgent need of individual remedial attention. Several other children followed, most of them now back in main stream education. Opkyk was a healing place for those children who cannot be accommodated in the main stream school system. June 2005 Pathways Brits was started as the need for a high quality stimulation centre for children with severe disabilities was great. Parents were driving children to Pathways Pretoria and then back in the afternoons a trip that took an hour both ways. We visited Pathways Pretoria and were impressed, and we decided to add an additional division to accommodate 3 children. Equi therapy is also hosted on the premises for the children of the Centre as well as children (aged 6 months and up) from the area. A dedicated group of staff members (teachers, facilitators and therapists incl. occupational, speech and language, and an equi therapist) work closely together to ensure that the children receive the intensive individual stimulation they require. Art and music therapy is also worked into the weekly program. promote the development of intellectual, cultural, spiritual and physical development. provide mechanisms for the supervision of independent lifestyles by implementing life skills training\. stimulate job creation and employment opportunities for people with disabilities\. promote an interest in, an awareness and appreciation of people with disabilities. empowering families, facilitators and the community in handling and accepting people with disabilities, by sharing knowledge via workshops, community outreach programmes, etc. implement augmentative and alternative communication where needed to optimalise the communication of people with disabilities (AAC), e.g. Implementing schedules and teaching families to use schedules at home. provide intensive sensory stimulation using gross motor sensory integration and functional numeracy, literacy and life skills training to ensure each person can at her/his optimal level. empower families by training the family, facilitators and the wider community about living with disability, integration and acceptance\. educational enrichment, academic support, supplementary tuition and outreach programmes for the poor and needy.
